One gifted Dutch graffiti writer, Tripl, has recreated and reinterpreted Subway Art, paying both homage to, and starting a dialogue with, the creators of the original book and graffiti as a whole.

Exactly 40 years after the publication of Subway Art, the critical, humorous, and respectful release of Repainting Subway Art is a fact. To the deepest layer and smallest detail Repainting Subway Art unveils the dedication, focus and work Tripl put into the reenactment; from painting, to photographing to styling. With 92 pages more than the original book, bringing new words and images of the project, plus an essay and interviews with Martha Cooper and Tripl, the new release gives an in-depth view on the project as a whole and its meaning.

Text has been (re-)written by Dr. Edward Birzin, author of the dissertation Subway Art(fact) (2019), What Do One Million Tags Signify? (2017) and Nov York (2002).
