  • Book of ZACK

    24.90

In the 90s, the Frankfurt writer ZACK was very present on the trains in the Rhine-Main area under various pseudonyms. He played a major role in shaping the golden years of train writing in the metropolis – a time when almost every commuter train was covered with graffiti and colorful panels and wholecars were often in traffic for months.

In Book of ZACK he gives an insight into his career on steel at the time, and also new works on walls since his comeback in 2018 can be seen.

Many of his images are accompanied by texts to the respective actions and let the reader share in his memories. The book is rounded off with additional guest contributions from some of his companions at the time.

  • International Topsprayer – Expired – MOSES & TAPS

    49.90

TOPSPRAYER EXPIRED – The limitation period edition

The INTERNATIONAL TOPSPRAYER book published by Publikat in 2011 – which has been sold out for several years and traded at horrendous prices on Ebay – is now coming back in a completely revised limitation period edition. Like the first version, the successor will again feature the legendary lenticular shaking cover, which crisply sums up their concept.

It is believed that shortly after its release, a note similar to the following will be found in the files of various graffiti investigation groups: „Between 2007 and 2010, the defendants MOSES and TAPS switched their pseudonyms. With the help of an unknown number of others involved in the crime, they bombed 1000 trains over a period of 1000 days. In May 2011, they published their deeds in the illustrated book INTERNATIONAL TOPSPRAYER. However, since no evidence of perpetration could be derived from the book, the relevant preliminary proceedings had to be finally closed after ten years due to the occurrence of the statute of limitations according to section 78 of the Criminal Code.

After the expiry of the statute of limitations, MOSES & TAPS are now clearing the air with the book TOPSPRAYER EXPIRED, MOSES & TAPS now comprehensively admit all accusations of the proceedings in words and pictures. Furthermore, the suspects supplement the accusations with previously unknown photographs and descriptions of the crimes. In addition, several hundred previously unknown graffiti crimes are documented, especially from the years 2011 and 2012.”

  • Edward Nightingale – You can’t always win

    39.90

    About failure in graffiti

In November 2019 a group of friends traveled to Tashkent in Uzbekistan to paint the local subway system. Their lack of chance is captured in this book.

Edward’s most emotional and intimate publication to this day is a visual essay about failure in graffiti.

As trainwriting happens to be illegal, trains often are protected against unwanted visitors. With high-security levels, success is not always guaranteed.
Sometimes there can be even a complete lack of it.
Every graffiti writer experienced those moments. But yet it is a topic hardly talked about.
Out of a writer’s perspective, nothing happens.
Follow four friends around remote areas of Tashkent, trying their luck with the subway for a week.
    But nothing happens.

  • Graffiti a New York

    24.90

Andrea Nelli was in his twenties when he went to New York for the first time. He saw BIG-O 116, EVIL ERF 14, RAT FINK 131, SUPER KOOL 223 written on the walls. In the beginning he thought of them as strange ideograms but he was even more fascinated to find out that the inscriptions were actually names. He decided to archive this phenomenon by taking pictures and to make it the subject of the thesis for his degree on Literature. He got in touch with many cliques of writers that open him the doors of New York.
Big names, as COCO 144, were his guide. Graffiti a New York by Andrea Nelli is the re-edition of one of first books about Graffiti Writing, published for the first time in 1978.
This book conserves the original text, precious and rare document of an unthinkable research for that period. It contributes to the historical memory of Graffiti Writing with amazing pictures about the styles and the first tags of Manhattan Heights.
More than 100 pictures of Names and historical pieces photographed by Andrea Nelli accompany the text, true in the form and in the content.
Graffiti a New York is a true witness about Graffiti phenomenon in his early years of birth.

  • Protecting Art in the Street

    14.90

There has recently been a sharp increase in cases where corporations have been sued by street and graffiti artists because their artworks had been used and exploited without the artists’ authorisation, for example in advertising campaigns, as backdrops in promotional videos, or as decorating elements of products. This trend shows and confirms that these forms of art are vulnerable. They are actually more exposed to unauthorised exploitation (and destruction as well) than works of fine art, because they are placed in the public eye.
Protecting Art in the Street explains, with words and images, how copyright laws apply to street art and graffiti, and how they can be of help to creators within these artistic communities. Knowledge about these issues does matter. There has recently been a spike in legal actions or complaints against corporations and individuals that have tried to exploit commercially street artworks without the artists’ consent; and more importantly without sharing with them any profit. Also, legal actions have been brought by street artists to fight destruction of their pieces.
By adopting a simple language, Protecting Art in the Street constitutes an easy-to-understand guide aimed at navigating street artists and graffiti writers through otherwise difficult and intricate legal issues concerning the protection of their artistic outputs.

  • Rae Martini – 24 Carat Dirt

    35.00

Rae Martini, a prominent figure on the international street scene, comes face to face with painting and artistic expression for the first time in the early 90s. For over twenty years he serves as one of the greatest exemplars of the Italian Graffiti movement. Along with only a few other artists, he has managed to concretize his artistic development. With so much graffiti on streets and trains in so many European cities, he pursued an artistic career dedicated to the world of paint and canvas. Just like railroad tracks, these two parallel domains intertwine and influence each other with the aesthetics and experiences of two worlds, distant, yet close; hardly any artists from the graffiti scene are so committed to their work and beliefs that they are capable of bringing urban setting and street culture into the world of fine art galleries. Over the last two decades, Rae Martini has been able to dedicate himself to these two worlds using a common starting point: sketching on paper.

• PATIPERRO – The diary of a Sudaka

    59.90

„PATIPERRO“ is the book in which Ale VLOK explains his adventures painting trains and subways all around the world, based on his artistic creativity and his particular point of view: that of a Chilean who began the adventure of his life as an illegal immigrant in Barcelona.

This editorial production is divided into 11 chapters, each represented by a portrait of the sneakers that our protagonist wore in each of the stories told. Throughout the book’s 392 pages, Ale VLOK narrates his experiences in different cities in an unusually honest way, joined by writers from all over the world, and accompanied by images and artistic pieces — all framed by a remarkable sense of aesthetics.

Barcelona, New York, London, Berlin, Tokyo, Cape Town, Dublin, Bucharest, Bilbao, Porto and many other cities …

29 cities over 4 continents, and more than 20 internationally renowned writers star in this editorial masterpiece dedicated to the most humane part of train graffiti.

Although artistic photography plays a key role in this book, each episode also contains other elements that enhance the understanding of the emotions that Ale VLOK describes. For this, he uses a range of mediums, from artistic collages to portraits of writers, through photographs of objects of special value and, of course, photos of graffiti pieces.

„PATIPERRO“ is undoubtedly one of the most original graffiti books in recent memory. In addition to its personal and exhilarating content, it stands out for the attention to aesthetic detail that is intertwined into the different narratives. A work that’s interesting not only for graffiti writers, but also for lovers of photography, art, design and adventure … as well an indispensable addition to the shelves any selfrespecting graffiti book collector.

  • GRAFFITI AVANTGARDE – MOSES & TAPS

    59.90

  • Rockin‘ It Suckers (10th Anniversary Edition)

    28.90

The inside story of the crew that has kept graffiti alive in New York City for the past 20 years!

After being out of print for years – ROCKIN’ IT SUCKERS is back in a limited 10th Anniversary Edition!

A classic graffiti book is once agin available – with additional text and original cover.

Some call it art others vandalism. For the members of the infamous RIS crew the label doesn’t matter. ROCKIN’ IT SUCKERS is the story of New York City’s infamous RIS crew in their heyday.

New York in the late 80s: A city tormented by crack and violent crime. At the same time the golden age of hip hop was in full bloom, and despite the violence some found room for creativity.
At this time a group of kids got together to taste the last of the city’s painted subway trains, just in time to experience a new era in New York’s graffiti history — The authorities decided to clean up the city and a zero-tolerance policy towards graffiti was instituted. While many of the city’s graffiti writers quit, the RIS crew was determined to keep the trains colorful and decided to wage their own war with the city. As a result, they took over New York with style, and along the way influenced graffiti writers long way outside the five boroughs.
The crack down from the authorities didn’t only trigger the RIS crew to write more, it also made them come up with faster techniques and develop their styles, all done with the crews’ characteristic arrogance and humorous touch. Soon they became one of the world’s most important and influential graffiti crews.

The Art of Writing Your Name Buch.

  • Forms of rockin

    25.90

„The idea of style and competing for the best style is the key to all forms of rockin‘.“ – Style Wars, 1983.

Are subcultures, like graffiti, floating free in their own space, or are they connected to the rest of society? In Forms of Rockin’, graffiti styles for the first time are connected to graphic design and other popular culture expressions such as music, fashion, photography, industrial design and movies. Anssi Arte analyses some of the most powerful visual symbols of the 1970s, 80s and 90s and compares design, display typefaces and graffiti styles. The visual styles of James Brown, Blade Runner, the Memphis group and grunge music all appear together with classic fonts and graffiti writers.
The clear yet analytical narrative and carefully crafted visualizations make it appealing to both graphic design aficionados as well as graffiti enthusiasts. But Forms of Rockin’ is more than that. This is a must for everybody interested in contemporary popular culture and design history.

Forms of Rockin‘ traces and defines the stylistic conventions in graffiti letterforms that have become iconic and globally acknowledged ideals. From the early New York tags to the mid-1990s ugly-fresh styles of Scandinavia, Forms of Rockin’ tells the story of how popular culture and graffiti styles influences each other.

Anssi Arte (b. 1981) is a Helsinki-based graphic designer specialized in visual identities and brand architecture. He has a formal (MA) education in graphic design from the Aalto University of Arts, Design and Architecture.
Besides graphic design he is a graffiti enthusiast since childhood, specialized in studying and practising the traditional European and Scandinavian letterforms and aesthetics.

  • Sven Willms – In Your America

    10.00

the first layer of graffiti in Munich

It is 1983 in Munich, the walls are gray and bare, marked only by a few political slogans and the odd declaration of love. Then, suddenly, abstract sign language, peculiar characters and cryptic combinations of letters begin to appear, their meaning a puzzle to all who chance upon them. The pieces begin to spread across the city and mark the start of the graffiti movement in Germany and throughout Europe. The photographic archives of attorney Konrad Kittl and Anthropology academic Peter Kreuzer reveal the first layer of graffiti in Munich: experiments with color and form, unprecedented and free from rules or preconceptions.

  • Like Lipstick Traces

    29.90

A spectacular photographic journey through the lenses of 13 graffiti artists.
13 graffiti writers, 2 years, 600 unpublished Polaroids.
Like Lipstick Traces shows the everyday life of 13 graffiti writers. Consciously, and therefore in contrast with usual graffiti publications, it uses the peculiar medium of Polaroid.
A Polaroid camera and about one hundred Polaroid photos was sent to well known graffiti writers of different nationalities. The task was to shoot their everyday life with complete freedom in the choice of the motifs. It is that freedom which makes this book so special, but also the fact that all these unpublished photos were taken especially for the book.
In the beginning of the 21st century, graffiti seems to be taking a line which is totally against its original motivation.
On one hand, this might be caused by more severe penalties, on the other it is due to the increasing incorporation of the media and big business. Thus, the artists presented in this book devote themselves to this art in a committed way. They do not succumb to commercial pressure and they bring new life into the graffiti movement.
Artists featured: Aroe (UK), C.B.S (DE), Dumbo (IT), Honet (FR), Kegr (DK), O’Clock (FR), Os Cururus (BR), Rate (USA), Remio (NOR), Rocky (ES), Scan (CA), Smash (CH), The E.R.S (BE).

  • Glorious Attitude FRA32

    35.00

Fra32 is one of the most prolific Italian graffiti writers.
Since the ’90s he has worked throughout Italy as well as abroad establishing himself as a leading figure in the international graffiti scene.
His unique style has contaminated and influenced generations of artists who have found in him a source of inspiration, fundamental and constant as well.
Glorious Attitude brings to light his twenty-year expressive evolution, revealing his obsessive stylistic search, perseverance in painting since he was very young, and persistent production, while he was crossing generations of writers, founding crews, and becoming friends with the most important names of the writing scene.

In this book journalist Chris Gibson draws Fra32’s artistic path, starting from his debut – his first tag in 1994 – and retracing his story until today, describing also Italy’s social and political backdrop of the ’90s.
The book is divided into four sections, each one narrated from a different point of view in order to display the most complete vision possible of the protagonist.
The journalist’s initial inquiry is accompanied by the contributions of about twenty writers who are close to Fra32 and who recount their friendship with the artist, donating a more human and less formal image of him.
The other chapters examine specific themes related to the world of graffiti writing in which texts written by the protagonist himself supplement the photographs.
Fra32 is a black book where the stories and the photographic archive (which includes more than 270 images) intertwine to give the reader a volume where the figure of one of the most international graffiti writers emerges.

  • Getting Caught

    11.00

Graffiti culture is well-documented, but its story has never been told – at least, not like this. Akay called up, chased down, and interviewed each person at the scene of the crime to collect raw facts and unreliable memories needed for this project. The result is a compilation that includes some of the most legendary moments in graffiti history from Stockholm, Copenhagen and Berlin and chronicles the rarely revealed experiences of individuals who are out night after night, not looking for trouble but getting into it anyway. This is a collection of stories about doing stupid things, getting chased, and almost getting away with it.

Stories from 1987 to 2011 including SLEDGE & AKAY, LAKE, ANGEST, KHAN, NECK, FEYS, AKIM, ASTMA, POMAC, UNIK, TERROR, MONKEY & KRIPOE, BIG BROTHER, KROPP, MATTHIAS & MISCHA, TELE & JENS, KOUCH, SKEN, ZOE, RUSKIG, ITSO, and KAOS.
