‘Schriftzüge’ (trains with writing on them) is the sequel book to Emmett Edelstein’s classic ‘Farbzüge’ (coloured trains) from 2015. For the 10th anniversary of Hitzerot the first volume was re-published in a slightly improved edition. When planning the re-issue the photographer realized that he had tons of new material collected since the original release that has not been published yet.

Although spotting the Berlin S-Bahn was not Emmett’s photographic main focus in the last decade, he anyway captured many trains of writers he admired and followed their activities for years. Also the days were over in which he could invest countless hours to bring home the one outstanding never before seen shot, so the chosen spots are not as widespread as in the book’s precursor. But the conceptual shift of ‘Schriftzüge’ brings the piece more into focus again in unique high quality shots.
So on 228 pages you can find recent outstanding works from PEPS, KRIPOE’s comeback to trains since the Covid times, and timeless burners by BUZZ, MAD79, or the omnipresent ROGER. In times of daily trainspotting overdoses on social media the book delivers a refreshing alternative way of enjoying well selected works on trains, printed in large scale and put together in a clean and minimalist layout. Once again the order in which the photos are shown is by the time of the day they have been taken at.
